COMPASSIONATE BOUNDARIES FOR TATTOOERS

In this workshop, I’ll be joined by Esther Garcia (she/her) as we talk through boundary-setting in a tattoo environment. By including this in the foundation of one’s tattoo journey, we hope to share imperative lessons from our own experiences in this industry.

Esther will share from her own prolific 20+ year career as a largely self-taught tattooer. She’ll discuss imposter syndrome, her relationship with art-making as a career, and self-care to maintain a healthy relationship with one’s own practice.

I’ll be sharing from my experience as a self-taught artist new to the industry with just over 3.5 years in tattooing. I’ll discuss compassionate boundary-setting with clients, a trauma aware / justice centered approach to tattooing, power dynamics, and power redistribution during appointments. My practice in this realm is heavily informed by the work of Tamara Santibañez (she/they) via Tattooing as Liberation Work. Tamara’s labor in creating these resources will be compensated by a $100 contribution from the leaders of this workshop.
